Enterprise History
From 1983 to 1988, by order of the USSR Ministry of Radio Industry, a decision was taken to build a base for repair and storage of computer equipment in Cherkasy region, town of Shpola. At the radio engineering factory, work was carried out in 3 shifts; more than 1,500 people were involved in the production.
In 1991, the management of Orion enterprise decided to review its specialization. According to new plans, the factory was reprofiled to produce safety triplex glass for national car manufacturing plants. Automotive glass was manufactured using casting technology for LuAZ, KrAZ and KAMAZ plants.
Since 1995, laminated triplex glass is produced by film technology (PVB)
In 2001, the enterprise came under the control of a new owner.
Starting in March 2001, the enterprise begins its development with investments in expansion of production capacities, acquisition of new manufacturing lines, as well as in upgrade of existing equipment.
Rebranding: a new corporate identity of the company was created and implemented. Registration of the Orion Glass brand.
May 8 is the day when the enterprise was founded under the brand name Orion Glass.
2001:
o November – launch of the first bending furnace, production of windshields for Bogdan A-091 and A-079 buses begins on the conveyor of the Cherkasy bus plant.
o December 2001 – launch of the electric slit furnace with a vertical tempering chamber for manufacturing of flat side and bent door glass panes for Bogdan A-091 buses.
o Launch of the automatic silk screen printing line.
2002-2003:
o Implementation of ISO 9001-2001 (9001:2000) quality management system bringing the company to a new higher level of development.
o Commissioning of high-tech modern equipment for production of laminated / architectural and decorative (triplex) glass.
o Putting into operation of Bavelloni and Zanetti glass processing machines.
2004:
March – commissioning of the second three-chamber bending furnace for production of windshields for Bogdan A-092 buses.
2005:
o May – commissioning of the Genius CNC-controlled automatic straight and figured glass cutting line
o Establishing of manufacturing of ready-made glass products: sauna doors, coffee tables, stands for audio and video appliances Opening of a glass furniture company store.
o June – installation of the third three-chamber bending furnace enabling conveyor production of windshields for domestic automotive industry manufacturers.
2006:
October – commissioning and successful operation of the combined furnace for tempering of new generation flat and bent glass. The North Glass automated glass bending and tempering production line is a bilateral line where one direction serves for flat glass tempering and the other for cylindrical bent glass tempering. The tempering line serves for bending and tempering of flat transparent glass, body-tinted glass, suffused (satin), enameled, reflective, energy-saving glass.
2007:
o Installation of the Intermac Master 43 (Italy) machining center for grinding, polishing, milling and drilling of glass.
o Installation of the Heat Soak Test furnace for tempered glass testing for presence of a critical concentration of nickel sulfide inclusions.
o Commissioning of Lisec (Austria) automatic glass units assembly lines. Start of production of glass units with improved thermal insulation properties and glass units for structural glazing.
o Commissioning of the following equipment: Busetti F-10 Intermac bilateral straight horizontal edging line (a horizontal CNC-controlled line for two-sided edge processing (Euro edging) of flat sheet glass); BAVELLONI GEMY-9C (Italy) automatic straight-line vertical grinding machine
o Commissioning of the clean room and two thermo-vacuum cabinets for triplex manufacturing with automatic heating mode control.
2008:
o August – commissioning of the NorthGlass glass tempering furnace with lateral bending, size 3,600 x 2,400 mm.
o August – commissioning of the set of equipment for production of laminated (triplex) glass using tempered, multifunctional and other modern glass types.
o December – commissioning of another bending furnace. Start of conveyor production of windshields for Lanos and VAZ cars.
2009:
o Commissioning of the unit for continuous monochromatic application of ceramic paint to transparent or body-tinted glass – the rollercoater machine Gemata Rollmac (Italy)
o Installation of two CNC-controlled machining centers Intermac Master 23, 25 (Italy)
2010:
Installation and commissioning of the fourth bending furnace as part of production expansion and upgrade program
2011:
o Commissioning of the combined monolithic and triplex glass cutting table Lisec GFB 60/30 VB 45 RE (Austria)
o Commissioning of monolithic and triplex glass cutting tables Genius 61 CT (Jumbo)
A landmark event – on May 8, 2011, Orion Glass celebrated its 10th anniversary.
2012:
Opening of a new company division for production of glass units.
Installation of automated lines for production of bent glass units, architectural complex-shaped glass units and glass units for structural glazing.
2012:
Opening of a new Orion Glass Group production site for industrial glass processing.
o Launch of production lines for shaping and cutting of glass (including jumbo sizes).
o Launch of the complex of processing equipment for grinding, polishing and drilling of glass.
o Commissioning of the Tamglass HTF Pro E furnace for tempering of flat glass.
The unique set of equipment installed at the new plant makes it possible to solve a complete range of industrial glass processing tasks, as well as to manufacture technologically sophisticated products from safety glass.
2014:
Commissioning of the GlassJet digital industrial printer from Dip Tech (Israel) for applying ceramic baked paints onto glass surface to obtain full-color images.
On May 8, 2016 Orion Glass Group celebrated the 15th anniversary of successful work!
As part of the celebration of the 15th anniversary, a solemn meeting of all Orion Glass divisions was held, and employees were awarded for their contribution to the development of the Group.
2016:
Opening of a new company division in the city of Zaporozhye for manufacturing of glass products for public, railway, agricultural, automobile (passenger, cargo) transport, as well as automotive glass for a certain model range of cars of foreign brands.
2017:
Opening of a wholesale and retail warehouse in the city of Kiew to meet the demand for automotive glass (for public, railway, freight transport) in the secondary market.
2017 :
Commissioning of the Francesca 16M 1600 FORVET drilling and milling unit. The CNC-controlled machining center is unique and is designed for drilling, countersinking and milling of flat glass sheets (3-25 mm), including non-rectangular shapes. The equipment made it possible to increase the productivity for manufacturing such articles as door groups, including internal glass partitions.
2017: Orion Glass Group celebrated the 16th anniversary of successful work!
2018-2019: Orion Glass acted as the official representative of the distribution network of JSC Gomelglass in the Ukrainian market for the sale of Belarusian float glass.
