History of the plant

From 1983 to 1988 by the order of the Ministry of Radio Industry of the USSR a decision was made to build a “Repairs and storage of computing technique base” in the town of Shpola in Cherkasy oblast. At the factory of radiotechnical profile work was done three shifts, over 1500 people were involved at production site.

In 1991 the management of the enterprise Orion decided to revise a factory specialization. According to the new plans, it was redesigned to manufacture safety glass triplex for domestic car plants. Manufacturing of automobile glass was made by filling technology for LuAZ, KrAZ, KAMAZ plants.

Laminated glass triplex has been manufactured under a film technology (polyvinyl- propylene film, PPF) since 1995

In 2001 a new owner took over the factory.

From March 2001 development of the factory through investments began: expanding production capabilities, purchasing new manufacturing lines as well as modernization of existing equipment.

Rebranding was carried out: the unique company style was created and introduced. The trade mark Orion-Glass was registered.

8 May is the factory founding day under the trade mark of Orion-Glass.


The І bending furnace was started up in November, manufacturing of windscreen glasses for Bohdan - А 091, А- 079 buses on assembly line at Cherkasy bus plant was started.

In December 2001 an electric slot-type furnace with a vertical tempering chamber was started up, it allows to manufacture flat side doors and curved door glass for Bohdan А- 091 busses.

An automated line of silk-screen printing was started up.


The Quality Management System ISO 9001-2001 (9001:2000) was introduced, which brings the factory to a new, more qualitative level of development.

High technological contemporary equipment in manufacturing laminated/architectural and decorative/ glass (triplex) was brought into production.

Glass processing machines Bavelloni, Zanetti were put into operation.

The II three-zone bending furnace for manufacturing windscreen glasses for Bohdan А- 092 busses was launched up in March.


An automated line for pattern cutting of glass was launched in May: Genius with CNC ((computerized numerical control) for rectilinear and shape cutting of glass) was started up in May.

Manufacturing of glass finished goods was started: sauna doors, coffee tables, cabinets for audio-visual equipment. A company store of glass furniture was opened.

The III three-zone bending furnace was installed in June, which makes it possible to manufacture windscreen (front) glasses on an assembly line for domestic car industry manufacturers.


A combined furnace for tempering flat and curved glass of new generation was put into operation in October, which successfully performs its tasks. A manufacturing automated line for bending and tempering glass by North Glass company is a two-sided work line, where one direction is for tempering flat glass and the other one is for tempering cylindrically curved glass. The line for glass tempering is designed for bending and tempering: flat, transparent glass, tinted in mass, dull (sateen), enameled, reflectory, energy saving glass.


A processing center "Intermac" Master 43 (Italy) was installed to perform woks on grinding, polishing, milling and drilling on the glass.

A testing glass tempering furnace for the presence of critical concentration of nickel- sulphate inclusions was installed.

The automatic assembly lines of glass units by Austrian company "Р. Lisec" were put into operation. Manufacturing of glass units with increased heat insulation properties and also glass units for structural glazing was started.

A two-sided rectilinear horizontal edged line "Busetti F-10 Intermac" (horizontal line with CNC for two-sided processing of an edge (euroedge) of flat sheet glass; an automatic rectilinear vertical grinding machine"GEMY - 9C" by company "Z. BAVELLONI" (Italy) were brought into operation.

A clean room and two thermo-vacuum cabinets for manufacturing triplex with an automatic control of a heating mode.


A buckling glass tempering furnace "NorthGlass" in size 3600×2400 started to work in August.

A complex of equipment for manufacturing multilayer laminated glass (triplex) using tempered, multifunctional and other contemporary glasses was launched in August.

A bending furnace was put into operation in December. An output of windscreen glasses for Lanos and VAZ 2110 cars began.


A glass-roller coating machine Gemata "Rollmac" (Italy) on entire monochromatic ceramic painting on transparent or tinted in mass glass was started up.

Two processing centers with CNC Master -23, 35 by "Intermac" company (Italy) were installed.

As part of the program concerning enhancement and modernization of the production, the lV bending furnace was installed and put into operation.

The important event is 8 May 2001, the company Orion-Glass marked the 10-th anniversary of work.


Opening of a new structural unit on manufacturing glass units.

Automated lines of manufacturing glass units were installed, which make it possible to

manufacture glass units, architectural glass units of irregular shapes, glass units for structural glazing.


Opening a new manufacturing site for the group of companies Orion-Glass – a factory for the industrial glass processing.

Shaping and cutting glass lines (including Jumbo sizes) were launched.

A complex of processing equipment for glass grinding, polishing and drilling.

A glass tempering furnace Tamglass HTF Pro E, which makes it possible to temper glass, was launched.

A unique complex of equipment, which the factory is equipped with, allows to solve a complete list of tasks on industrial processing of glass, and also to manufacture technologically sophisticated products from safety glass.


An industrial digital printer GlassJet by "Dip - Tech" (Israel) company for applying ceramic baked paints of full color image on a surface of glass was put into operation.
